CDC: H1N1 Widespread; Vaccine Shortages as Swine Flu Symptoms Hit

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed that the Swine Flu is now widespread and increased last week. Many regions are loudly complaining about shortage of the swine flu vaccine and an official in Arizona is cited in a newspaper report as saying he understands many citizens are on edge and government health officials are in danger of losing the public's trust.

Dr. Bob England, Maricopa County's public-health director told the Arizona Republic, "I am getting some very angry calls and e-mails right now." The paper has very useful information here, and adds that the shortage is real, "Arizona has been shipped less than half of the swine-flu vaccine it expected so far."

More H1N1 Flu updates - what are the symptoms?
According to the CDC: "The symptoms of 2009 H1N1 flu virus in people include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea."
Julie Pike has a report here that includes links on how to do a self check for signs of the flu. The report warns, don't let the test (it's here from Flu.gov) substitute for actual treatment from a doctor.

"The CDC guidelines are very clear," Gloucester Public Health Nurse Chassea Robinson tells the paper. "Fever of any degree plus one of the following: chills, sore throat, runny nose, cough, headache, body aches, and fatigue—any combination of those is a 'flu-like illness.' Stay home."
