Colorado a 420 Friendly State - Marijuana Legal as Amendment 64 Signed into Law
Colorado is now the second state that is 420 friendly, allowing the recreational use of marijuana for adults 21 and over with the governor's action on Monday signing Amendment 64 into law.
The state of Washington also has legalized the recreational use of marijuana for adults in a similar measure approved by their state's voters (Washington's Initiative 502).
Amendment 64 passed easily in Colorado, with a 55-45 margin, and Governor John Hickenlooper proclaimed that the voters had spoken loud and clear and signed an Executive Order making an "official declaration of the vote," on Monday Dec. 10, 2012.
Huff Po explains the law this way:
"(Amendment 64) allows adults 21 and older to purchase up to one ounce of marijuana from specialty marijuana dispensaries and grow up to six marijuana plants in their homes.
Possession is limited to up to an ounce for personal use, but selling marijuana without a license, purchasing marijuana from a party who is not licensed as well as public use of marijuana will remain illegal."
A task force is being formed to help reconcile logistical issues with the new law such as labeling and rules regarding sales.
They also hope to reconcile that pesky issue of conflicts with federal law.
