Crime Beat: Yawn and Jail?
By Brenda Jones
Aug 13, 2009
One Yawn and jail? Crime beat looks at the unique case of an Ill. man that faces 6 months in jail for yawning. Six months! Will County Judge Daniel Rozak slammed Clifton Williams with a six-month sentence for a yawn like sound in his court, and the man is sitting thinking about it.
The yawn happened as Williams' cousin, Jason Mayfield, was being sentenced for a drug charge on July 23. Williams will have to serve as least 21 days, the Chicago Tribune reported, and he has been locked up since July 23.

In a letter to his family, Williams wrote, “I really can’t believe I’m in jail.” I mean I honestly think that when people get in trouble for some (stuff) like this and loose their freedom it makes me really wonder about our judicial system.
