Deer Jumps Into Lion Exhibit (Photos, Video) Mad Dash Caught on Film

Nov 9, 2009

A baby deer wandered over from Rock Creek Park and jumped right into the lion exhibit at the National Zoo on Sunday afternoon. Zoo visitors can be heard screaming on a video when the lions begin pursuing the deer that has been posted online.

According to a report from MSNBC News, "Two female lions went after the deer and severely injured it, but the deer got away from its predators and made a mad dash for the moat."

"Zoo police cleared visitors from the area and the zoo's vet staff went in, sedated the deer and took it to an animal hospital. Its injuries were too serious though and several hours later, after being examined by Zoo experts, the deer was put to sleep," reports NTDWA.

They have the video here and its likely safe for work but does show some of the attack. MSNBC has pictures here of the animal attack.
