Dow Plummets Below 7000, Can Marijuana Tax Provide a Buzz for Economy?

Can a marijuana tax give a much needed buzz for the economy? The Dow started off Monday morning by again falling hard, this time crashing though 7,000 and headed down. Can a marijuana tax help save the economy? A California congressman is looking to legalize the drug and tax it for his state and he believes it is a win-win as it will free up law enforcement and help assist the state budget with cash.

Will it go nationwide? Washington Whispers has this, "FDR spent his first few days in office fixing the banks, and then he legalized beer. President Obama has buoyed the banks; what about legalizing marijuana?"

The item from Alex Kingsbury notes that Keith Stroup, the attorney who founded the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws in 1970 beleives now is the time and California is the place where weed should be legal.
The US News and World Report item adds,that for decades, Stroup has argued that legalizing pot would produce mega tax windfalls, and now, officials of states zonked out by the fiscal crisis—Texas, Tennessee, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania—are asking Stroup for the 411 on ganja green. "As smokers," he adds, "we're raising our hands and saying: Tax us!"
