Mt. Rainier Snowshoer Burned Money - Ate Chocolate to Stay Alive in Blizzard

A snowshoer stranded for two nights alone in a blizzard on frozen Mt. Rainier ate chocolate and burned his money to stay alive.

Experienced snowshoer Yong Chun Kim survived in the freezing temperatures by digging a snow tunnel, marching in place, and burning his socks, cash, and toothpaste.

He said the skills he learned while serving in the South Korean Military in the Vietnam War kept him alive.

According to a report from the LA Times, he had set off Saturday, leading a snowshoeing trip, but became separated from his group when he fell down a steep slope.

"I feel pretty good," he told KOMO-TV after being rescued.

"He was conscious and alert, able to walk, and appeared to be in stable condition when they found him," park spokeswoman Lee Taylor said in a statement.
