North Carolina Fireworks Explosion (Photos, Video) Ocracoke Blast

From Ocracoke, North Carolina - Reports now confirm a third person has died from a fireworks explosion. After more than a dozen years of celebrating Independence Day with fireworks, Ocracoke was forced to go dark this Independence Day. The usual July 4 celebration was halted due to a horrific explosion.

The blast happened before the scheduled display of fireworks to celebrate the birth of America, and according to a report from the Associated Press the explosion took place as "workers unloaded fireworks from a truck in preparation for an Independence Day celebration."

That was at about 9 a.m. and witnesses told members of the media on scene to cover the blast that the explosion could be felt all over the island. WAVY is a news station from the area and the channel had their "Chopper 10" on the scene after the early morning explosion.
