Papa Johns Price Increase Coming - Blame Obamacare, Says Owner John Schnatter
US pizza chain Papa Johns is planning a price increase and owner John Schnatter blames Obamacare.
“We're not supportive of Obamacare like most businesses in our industry but our business model and unit economics are about as ideal as you can get for a food company to absorb Obamacare,” Schnatter said during a conference call.
“Ergo, we have a high ticket average with extremely high frequency of order counts, millions of pizzas per year.”
Politico notes that the Mitt Romney supporter said the health care law's changes — set to go into effect in 2014 — will result in higher costs for the company — which they vowed to pass onto consumers.
The LA Times notes that "Schnatter estimates that the legislation will cost Papa John’s about 11 cents to 14 cents per pizza, which equates to 15 cents to 20 cents per order."
Papa John’s has nearly 4,000 restaurants in its system operating in every state and in 33 countries.
