Politicians and scandals go together like Monica Lewinsky and a stained blue dress and as this month marks 25 years since Gary Hart thought he could outsmart the press until a photo of Donna Rice sitting on his lap and claims of a nightlong sexual romp with the leggy blonde aboard his yacht so aptly named "Monkey Business" ended his run for the White House and any political career aspirations he may have had.

The tradition continues, let's look back at the top five scandals involving women and politicians in 2011.

Anthony Weiner - Weinergate scandal...

Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner announced his resignation from Congress on June 16, 2011 after being embroiled for weeks in a sex scandal linked to his lewd online exchanges with women.

He initially denied that he had accidentally tweeted a photo of his erect penis covered only by his boxer shorts. He later admitted that his Twitter account had not been hacked and the photo was intended to be a private message.

Herman Cain mistress claims derail GOP bid for president...

Herman Cain was derailed as the GOPs front runner after several women came forward to question his character by telling America they had extra-marital affairs with the ex-Godfather of Pizza.

In December of 2011, he finally quit.

“As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul-searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign,” Mr. Cain said at a rally in Atlanta, surrounded by supporters chanting his name.

“Because of the continued distractions, the continued hurt caused on me and my family, not because we are not fighters. Not because I’m not a fighter.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger Love child...

Schwarzenegger had already been ousted from office when he learned he had a love child from an earlier sexual affair while he was married.

John Edwards love child, paid mistress...

Former U.S. Sen. and presidential candidate John Edwards' love life cost him whatever political career he had left when it was discovered that he fathered a love child with mistress and videographer Rielle Hunter.

There are also accusations of using campaign cash to pay her off and the case is in federal court now as Edwards tries to avoid jail.

John Ensign extramarital affair...

Former Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) had an extramarital affair with the wife of one of his staff.

He then tried to pay the staffer to keep quiet about the affair.

He resigned in April before the Senate Ethics Committee released a report saying that Ensign had violated several campaign finance laws and obstructed the committee's investigation into the affair.
