President Obama spent his 49th birthday dinner in Chicago with Oprah at Graham Elliot restaurant in the city. Michelle Obama was in Spain and Michelle and Sasha called the president from Spain and Malia called from camp to wish him a happy birthday.

Michelle's trip is drawing lots of attention. The NY Daily News runs a headline "Material girl Michelle Obama is a modern-day Marie Antoinette on a glitzy Spanish vacation," while CBS News is adding up the cost of the flight and claims a whopping $147,563!


Despite her glamorous lifestyle, Michelle earlier said she has to watch not to over-indulge as the family travels.

Her buff arms may be the envy of women worldwide, but Michelle Obama has revealed that some days even she skips the gym and eats junk food.

The 46-year-old First Lady told Ladies' Home Journal that she doesn't get up at 4.30am and work out every morning. When asked if she ever misses a day going to the gym, she said: "Today… All of last weekend."

She also admitted that during a recent trip to Chicago with her husband President Barack Obama and their daughters Sasha, nine, and Malia, 12, she couldn't resist the urge to over-indulge.

She said: "I ate everything that was available. In fact, we had a [take-away] food fest. We were back in Chicago and we had a day of having all of our favorite stuff: deep-dish pizza, barbecue."



Obama – who is trying to fight childhood obesity through her Let's Move campaign – said that although she encourages her daughters to stay healthy by exercising regularly, she shies away from mentioning weight.

She said: "Well, I never talk about weight with my girls. I try not to even talk about my weight because… it is a sensitive issue…"
