Scott Brown Poll - Tops Martha Coakley in Latest Polling, Massachusetts Senate Race

Jan 18, 2010

Scott Brown has surged at just the right time, the latest polling from Massachusetts reveals. Brown was once thought by many pundits as nothing more than a speed bump on the way to the coronation of the "US Senator from Massachusetts, Martha Coakley" for the seat vacated when Edward Kennedy passed away.

However, with only hours left in the race, it is hard to find a Massachusetts senate poll with any good news for Coakley and the headlines are stunning. "New poll: Martha Coakley in freefall," reports Politico. If the numbers they have are even close to being the correct election day numbers, that headline is accurate.

Another headline: "Poll: Scott Brown surges to double-digit lead over Martha Coakley," screams My Fox Boston.

Public Policy Polling had this for Sunday, January 17: "Scott Brown leads Martha Coakley 51-46 in our final Massachusetts Senate poll, an advantage that is within the margin of error for the poll."

InsiderAdvantage CEO Matt Towery conducted a poll for Politico and the results are dramatic. "According to the survey conducted Sunday evening, Brown leads the Democratic attorney general 52 percent to 43 percent," the report states. See the poll and article here.

Will the numbers really be that large? Just last week Suffolk University released a statewide poll on Thursday, Jan. 14, that showed Brown (50 percent) leading Coakley (46 percent) by 4 points and the momentum has been all Brown since that day.
