South Pacific Tsunami (Video, Photos) Massive Earthquake in Samoa

A South Pacific Tsunami has ripped across the Pacific, including Samoa, and a massive 8.3 earthquake that happened on that island at 6:48 a.m. local time has wreaked havoc on the area causing death and destruction. According to a reporter on the scene from CNN, it was "one big earthquake and a lot of aftershocks" sending danger to seacraft and the islands, according to the broadcast CNN report.

A 2004 Asian tsunami killed about 230,000 people across 11 countries. According to National Public Radio (via NPR.Com), "American Samoa Gov. Togiola Tulafono said at least 50 were injured" and the report adds that estimates right now of those killed stands at "at least 39 people" and is expected to rise.

The Wall Street Journal reports caution is the order of the day and "The U.S. National Weather Service issued a tsunami advisory for the U.S. West Coast, warning of potentially strong currents or dangerous waves."
