A man in Utah dressed in a goat costume is trying to blend into the wild, but he could be victim of hunting season, police fear.

A hiker spotted the odd costumed man in the wilderness in Utah about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City and the man purportedly is wearing the costume in an attempt to get close to real goats, though it is still unclear why.

The hiker who spotted the Utah "Goat man" talked to the Associated Press.

“I thought maybe it was injured,” the hiker, 33-year-old Coty Creighton told the AP Friday.

He spotted the goat man from several hundred yards away and couldn't really tell what it was.

According to the report the hiker looked through his binoculars to get a closer look, and "he saw something very odd indeed: a man in fake horns and a cloth mask with eye holes, traipsing around with the four-legged ruminants."

“I thought, ‘What is this guy doing?’ ” Creighton said.

“He was actually on his hands and knees. He was climbing over rocks and bushes and pretty rough terrain on a steep hillside.”

Fox News reveals authorities are trying to identify the man and warn him of the many dangers he faces, including from hunters and from the goats he appears to be tracking.

"They may get agitated. They're territorial. They are, after all, wild animals," Phil Douglass of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources said Friday.

He added that the person wearing the goat suit is doing nothing illegal, but he worries the man is unaware of the dangers.
