Aaron Sorkin 'Fires' the Majority of Newsroom Writers, but Saves His Ex Corinne Kinsbury
Aaron Sorkin 'fires' the majority of Newsroom writers, but saves his ex in a shake up designed to improve the HBO series.
The show, which stars Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Dev Patel and Olivia Munn started out with only 2.1 million viewers for its very first show.
Those aren't stellar numbers as True Blood is the opening act for the show on HBO and usually draws the attention of 4.5 million viewers, so Sorkin's latest show was losing many viewers from its lead in show.
Critics panned the show and no real reason has yet been given for the firings, but some have pointed to negative reviews of the show, especially of its female characters, as a possible explanation as to why they were fired.
One person did survive the axe - Sorkin saved his ex-girlfriend Corinne Kinsbury.
He is currently dating Kristin Davis.
There haven't been many shows that have generated a love-hate response as intense as Jeff Daniels' HBO "The Newsroom" and the Hollywood Exclusive notes that with most critics slashing and burning the Aaron Sorkin-created series, its star loves it.
There is no question of where Jeff Daniels stands on the "Newsroom" debate:
"It's the best gig I've ever had," he tells us. "Certainly since Woody Allen's 'Purple Rose of Cairo.' Best gig I've had."
According to Daniels, he and Sorkin envisioned his scorchingly smart television news anchor, Will McEvoy, as someone the audience could "imagine being dropped in the middle of all those guys who exist right now -- Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly and Rachel (Maddow) and Larry O'Donnell and Wolf (Blitzer) and all those people."
Can the new writers help?
