American Idol's popular runner-up Adam Lambert has finally "come out" in a new interview – and admitted he has a crush on winner Kris Allen. The singer was a surprise second place in the show’s latest season after becoming an instant sensation with flamboyant performances that consistently won dramatic praise from the judges.

His wild outfits, heavy make-up, trademark high-pitched wails and closeness to a male friend led to rumours about his sexuality, but he had refused to comment – until now.


In an eagerly awaited interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he says: “I don’t think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear I’m gay. “I’ve been living in Los Angeles for eight years as a gay man. I’ve been at clubs, drunk, making out with somebody in the corner.” Lambert said he almost told reporters straight after the Idol finale but thought an interview with Rolling Stone would be ‘cooler’.

He added: “I’m proud of my sexuality.” The 27-year-old said winner Kris Allen was his type – and found it ‘distracting’ when Idol producers put them in the same room at the beginning of the show.
