American Idol Alum Gina Glocksen: Still Rocking

Jan 1, 2009

Rocker Gina Glocksen is proving that her success on American Idol was no fluke. She has recorded the fantastic “Taking The Keys,” arguably the catchiest tune to date produced by any of her season 6 Idol alumni. With the help of AI buddy Chris Sligh, Glocksen’s single is one of those perfect pop-rock anthems – great vocals, lots of hooks, strong guitar - and an intense sentiment shared by plenty of listeners.

You can hear Gina’s new tune at her revamped and colorful website, www.rocktheglock.com. “Taking The Keys” will soon be available on iTunes, and her next song, “When Did You Go?” will follow shortly. In what will be remembered as perhaps the most gut-wrenching farewell of any finalist in the history of AI, Gina choked back tears and tried to perform the Chaplin classic, “Smile,” moments after being eliminated in the season 6 shocker. Though never in the bottom two or three until her exit, the consensus was that her fans felt she was safe and did not vote in typical numbers, much like the “Chris Daughtry scenario” of the previous season.

Life for Glocksen, however, has moved on at full speed. Not one to stay still or stand on her Idol success, she has given time to visit the troops in war-torn Afghanistan, performed across the U.S., and continues to make personal appearances. The pretty, Illinois native, dubbed “the rocker chick” by Randy Jackson, is one of the lasting favorites of the show’s seven-year run, having hosted Idol Extra and getting together to perform with her with her AI mates when time allows.

After “Taking The Keys” and “When Did You Go” make it to iTunes, look for a cd in 2009 from Gina. In a style reminiscient of Heart and Pat Benatar - but with a modern, polished edge to it - Glocksen’s music is just what her industry needs: songs that get stuck in your head and a shot of melodic rock & roll to get things moving.
