Gay sex, American Idol, Clay Aiken and a gay soldier. What ever happened to "don't ask - don't tell?" Former idol Clay finds himself right in the middle of allegations that he and the soldier participated in a gay tryst and the ex-soldier reportedly took a lie detector to prove it.

Clay Aiken Gay Sex Charges

John Paulus tells the National Enquirer that he spent the night with Aiken after the singer emailed him just before Christmas in 2005 after seeing his ad on a gay website, according to Contact Music UK.

He claims he arranged to meet Aiken at a hotel in North Carolina after the singer asked him to be his "discreet bf (boyfriend)" and the couple had sex.

Now, Paulus wants his one-night stand to come out of the closet and tell the world he's gay.

Page Six notes Clay fans aren't pleased:

"He is getting death threats from Clay's fans," a friend of Paulus tells Page Six. "After his name was leaked on a couple of gossip Web sites, he's been getting threats. But he's also gotten calls from gay porn directors who want to cast him in a movie, kind of what happened after John Wayne Bobbitt got famous."

Paulus, 38, passed a polygraph test administered by the Enquirer in an attempt to corroborate his bombshell claim that he had sex with Aiken at a Quality Inn in Garner, N.C., on Jan. 2. In the new Enquirer, Paulus claims he and Aiken had 90 minutes of man-on-man passion at the hotel, which is near Aiken's hometown of Raleigh, N.C.

The story is in the Enquirer issue out today nationwide.

The NY Post continues its report by noting that Aiken has always maintained that he is straight, but in 2003 he told Diane Sawyer on ABC's "Primetime Live," "I have some very effeminate qualities."

His spokesman, Roger Widynowkski, declined to comment on the Enquirer story yesterday.
