For weeks on end Sanjaya Malakar was the most talked about contestant on American Idol. He was wildly popular, and if he would have had any singing talent, he might have had a chance to take the entire Idol contest. He was all over television and the Internet, even his sister became famous. But apparently everyone doesn't watch the reality TV show and according to the National Enquirer stardom hasn’t gone to Sanjaya Malakar’s head…yet!

American Idol Castoff Sanjaya Malakar Mistaken For a Doorman

The American Idol teen idol was standing outside Manhattan’s swanky W Hotel waiting for his limo to whisk him to a TV interview, when a businessman bustled out, waved a $5 bill at the 17-year-old.

According to an insider the hurried suit said : “Grab my bag and throw them in my town car there, please! I’m in a hurry.” Sanjaya - wearing an unmarked dark suit like W’s other doormen - didn’t miss a beat! He put the guy’s bags in the trunk, accepted the five bucks and - as a few fans watching the byplay cracked up - pocketed it with this trademark million dollar smile!

One of his handlers was overheard asking: “What the hell were you doing?” Said Sanjaya: “Hey, five bucks is five bucks."
