The conventional wisdom is that American idol finalist David Cook would be far better off losing on American idol. If he is eliminated tomorrow night or next week, Cook would certainly be able to soar to huge heights on his own. But what advice is he getting? He recently said, "Somebody told me, whether you're pleasing or ticking somebody off, you're doing something right."

He certainly has ticked off David Archuleta fans. The pre-teen screamers that love David A. can't stand the hard rocking Cook and they can't believe that he gets better reviews than Archuleta from critics. But Cook is just flat out a better performer. But with idol, it is all about votes and that has kept Archuleta in the running.


Cook also has opened up about his inspiration. The "AC" Duo - Brothers Andrew, 20, and Adam, 35, who is battling cancer, "are my inspirations," says David, 25, "so out of superstition, I put their initials on anything. It's a comfort, like packing your pillow on the road."

He has also tried to evolve a bit in the way he dresses for the American idol stage. "I'm spending more on clothes, which is very strange for me because historically I've been a jeans and T-shirt guy. You buy the Hanes 3-pack of T-shirts and that's three days of not having to do laundry." All of our American idol coverage is here. Who goes home this week?
