American Idol Kelly Clarkson Ripped by Judge Simon Cowell

Jul 15, 2007

Kelly Clarkson may not be into older men. On the reports that executive Clive Davis didn’t like her new album, My December she blasted, "I just want people to hear it, instead of 100-year old executives making decisions on what’s good for pop radio. It’s people my age who listen to it. My gut hasn’t been wrong yet, so why wouldn’t I continue to follow it?"

That did not go over well with Simon. The grouchy British judge of the Fox Reality TV show shot back at the former idol winner. "Clive Davis at 80 is better than 99 percent of the people in the music business in their 20s, 30s and 40s . . . and he's not 80 . . . [Davis] is the boss of the record company, and it's his job to advise." Actually he is 75.

Clarkson, 25, fired her manager last month and cancelled her upcoming tour and in the new issue of Reader’s Digest, she reveals that, by the time she was 23, she had put enough money away to keep her set for the rest of her life.

“I have saved and saved, and I don’t have to work another day. When I won Idol and started working with a business manager, she asked, ‘What do you want?’ I was like, I don’t ever want to have to make a decision because I need money. So we accomplished that two years ago, and I’m set.”

In her defense, Simon Cowell and his two partners Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul are the ones that lined up what was the worst line up in Idol history for season six. Maybe Clive had better sit in with the judges next season.
