The time has come for American idol to be reduced from the top ten. After Wednesday night's results show only nine contestants will remain and out of those only four seem to have legitimate shot at the title this season. David Cook has shot to the top with his recent performances while once favorite David Archuleta has floundered a bit but still must be taken very seriously.

Brooke White is now the top female performer and Michael Johns is the dark horse. Carly Smithson still could crack the top five or even the top three but she is in need of some great performances in the upcoming weeks. The show is live on the East Coast and the results are coming in.


Bottom three time. Chikezie sang "If Only for One Night," by Luther Vandross and that has landed him in the bottom three. Syesha Mercado sang "If I Were Your Woman," by Stephanie Mills and that has landed her in the bottom three as well. One more to go.

There were over 30 million votes this week according to host Ryan Seacrest. So far the contestants that are safe are Brooke White and Carly Smithson (who was in the bottom there last week.) Michael Johns is easily in again and is safe. Ramiele Malubay is safe as well, she's lucky, she was not good last night. For the first time in a few weeks Kristy Lee Cook is safe. This is a bit of a shocker, Jason Castro is in the bottom three.

Jason was immediately told that he was safe. Whew! He deserves to stay. Drumroll, please. Syesha Mercado is told she is safe and that means Chikezie is off of American idol. Too bad, I liked him.
