Black Monday 2013 for Football - What NFL Head Coaches Were Fired?
Today is Black Monday in the National Football League.
Several NFL coaches will face the axe today - how many coaches were fired on Monday December, 30th, 2013?
The first firing of a head coach comes with an asterisk.
The Cleveland Browns fired Rob Chudzinski a little early for Black Monday 2013 in the NFL - he was given the axe on Sunday.
Chudzinski lasted only a season as the Browns’ head coach.
The team was 4-12 this season.
“We appreciate Chud’s passion for the Browns, and we have great respect for him both personally and professionally,” the team said in a statement.
“We needed to see progress with this football team. We needed to see development and improvement as the season evolved and, unfortunately, we took a concerning step backward in the second half of the year. Our fans deserve to see a consistently competitive team. We have high standards, and there’s an urgency for success. When we believed we were not positioned to achieve significant progress in 2014, we knew we had to admit that a change was needed, and move forward. Browns fans are the most loyal and passionate supporters in the NFL. We’re fully committed to bringing them the winning football team they deserve.”
Leslie Frazier was fired by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.
The Vikings let fans know on Twitter.
“Unfortunately, we did not achieve consistent success and did not achieve the progress we expected,” Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman said in a statement. “We believe a coaching change is needed to help build a successful team moving forward.”
Frazier's record as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings was 21-32-1 in three years.
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan was fired on Monday, the coach went 24-40 in four seasons in Washington.

“Redskins fans deserve a better result,” owner Daniel Snyder said in a team-issued release. “We thank Mike for his efforts on behalf of the Redskins. We will focus on what it takes to build a winning team, and my pledge to this organization and to this community is to continue to commit the resources and talent necessary to put this team back in the playoffs.”
