Bracketology and Predictions - 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament Picks

Mar 15, 2010

What is Bracketology? It the process of predicting the field and winners in the yearly "March Madness" dose of US tradition known as the NCAA Basketball Tournament. That 'Bracketology expertise' is exactly what is needed now as help is being sought to predict winners of the games from the final 64 teams that will be left in the field on Thursday by pros and novices alike.

The selection committee's 2010 tournament bracket was announced on Sunday and immediately went online. The first warm-up (slash) play-in game is Tuesday and the real dance begins on Thursday.

Now the hard part, picking winners and losers. Josh Hart and Cathy Beers have links and predictions here. One prediction brings back memories of the Blugrass state's 'hated' Christian Laettner. You guessed it - the prediction is a Kentucky-Duke final from one of the would-be prognosticators.

Would Duke win again? Tips and hints from experts and wannabe experts alike are floating throughout cyberspace, but one that catches the eye is an offering from Dennis Dodd. The CBS Sports.com senior writer has an interesting bracket hint for winning some early points.

He opines: "Wisconsin will muck up the game with a stultifying slow pace and, to no one's surprise, advance to the Sweet 16."

Dodd breaks down the East Regional and predicts a West Virginia trip to the final four. Links for predictions for all of the other regions from CBS Sports are on the right side of the jump page. There is video as well at the link.

Over to ESPN for another good piece of information - "Sixteen points on my mind when thinking about the East Regional," is just the start of an in-depth look from Andy Katz. He bucks what he calls "the West Virginia trend" for the Eastern region and picks Kentucky to come out of the east.

Column here and selections are also linked on the right hand side of the ESPN page. Have fun filling out those brackets, and remember - it is often the receptionist that picks by uniform that wins.
