Cher's sex-change daughter has told how he is finally living the life he always wanted after undergoing surgery to become a man. Chasity 'Chaz' Bono, who is eight months into the gender realignment treatment, said he has always felt like "one of the boys".

He told ABC News television: "I feel so much more comfortable than I've ever been. I've felt male as far back as I can remember."

The 40-year-old, born Chastity Bono to singer and actress Cher and the late Sonny Bono, said the process of transitioning from female to male will take about four to five years. So far, hormone treatments have caused his voice to deepen. He has also had his breasts removed and he has had to start shaving his face, he said.

"This was a very difficult decision to make, but it was the best decision I've ever made," he told Good Morning America. "I believe gender is between your ears and not between your legs." Chaz, who lives with girlfriend of four years Jennifer Elia, revealed his famous mother had vowed to support his decision.
