Mar 1, 2010
Idol news and notes - Former American Idol star Clay Aiken (pictured) is standing up for gay rights. The 31-year-old singer, who came out and revealed he was gay in September 2008, reportedly spoke out during the Human Rights Campaign dinner in North Carolina.
"We have a great deal of more work to do,” he said. “Our time is now and it’s about damn time.”
Aiken, who has an 18-month-old son with music producer and longtime friend Jaymes Foster, also addressed why it took him so long to reveal his sexuality to fans.
“I was waiting like so many folks are waiting… for change,” he said. “I realized the time for waiting has passed. The power of truth and living honestly is very liberating.”
