Daniel Wayne Smith, Son of Anna Nicole Smith Found Dead
Daniel Wayne Smith, the 20-year old son of Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith has been found dead. In a tragic story Daniel Wayne Smith died Sunday at Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Reginald Ferguson, assistant commissioner of the Royal Bahamian Police Force, said in an interview with The Associated Press.
He said an autopsy was under way. Police do not suspect foul play at this time.
According to police, Smith arrived Saturday night in the Bahamas, and apparently went directly to the hospital where he spent the night in his mother's room, Ferguson said.
"It would appear from our report that the mother had gotten up, saw him in the chair and he appeared to be sound asleep," he said. "She tried to wake him up, he was unresponsive, and she sounded the alarm."
Anna Nicole had just given birth three days earlier in the same hospital to a baby daughter.
TMZ reports that police continue to maintain that there were no signs of visible injury on the body, and that there were no signs of violence in the room. Police add that they haven't deemed the death a homicide, and do not suspect foul play.
Sources cited by the local newspaper Nassau Guardian have suggested that the cause of death was a "massive heart attack," but neither doctors nor the local coroner has confirmed this. And the Guardian adds that Daniel Smith arrived in Nassau on Saturday, after his mother had given birth.
Anna Nicole Smith, 38, gave birth to a healthy 6-pound, 9-ounce girl at the hospital Thursday, her Web site said.
"Anna Nicole is absolutely devastated by the loss of her son. He was her pride and joy and an amazing human being," a statement on the site said. It said that drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor.
