Dirty Dancing Hotel Catches Fire - Destroyed (Video)
A fire burned down most of a condominium complex formerly known as the Brown’s Hotel and featured in the movie 'Dirty Dancing' in the Catskills.
No one was killed or injured in the blaze called the "largest fire in Catskills history."
The structure dates from 1944 and was reportedly a favorite venue for comedian Jerry Lewis.
It took 40 fire companies many hours to get control of the fire.
KSEE has more photos and recalls "Dirty Dancing" was one of the biggest films of the 80's, catapulting the now-deceased Patrick Swayze to superstar status.
The report adds:
"The sleeper hit became the first movie ever to sell more than a million copies on VHS.
Despite its supposed setting, the majority of "Dirty Dancing" was filmed in North Carolina, not New York.
However, Brown's Hotel was one of several Catskills establishments that formed the inspiration for the script."
