DJ AM has been found dead in a New York apartment. The celebrity disc jockey's body was reportedly discovered in the Manhattan property at 5.30pm on Friday after a worried pal called police. Sources reported that drug paraphernalia had also been found in the apartment. His cause of death has not been established. He had recently split with his girlfriend Hayley Wood, according to reports.

Friends had not seen DJ AM - Adam Goldstein - for a few days. One friend had knocked on the apartment door to check on him, and called police after receiving no response. Officers then broke down the door and discovered the DJ's body. The tragedy comes almost a year after DJ AM was badly burned in a plane crash in South Carolina, alongside his pal former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Both were inside a Learjet that overshot the runway and burst into flames.


Four people died in the crash - which was caused when the airplane aborted takeoff and then ran off the runway. DJ AM and Barker were the only survivors.

Barker's ex-wife, Playmate Shanna Moakler, responded to news of DJ AM's death on Twitter, writing: "My deepest condolences for DJ AM, you were a great artist and will be severely missed. My thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends." Among others, DJ AM dated fashionista Nicole Richie and singer Mandy Moore.
