"Donald Trump's Wrestler" Bobby Lashley Quits WWE
Jan 23, 2008
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has been dealt a serious blow to its talent roster as "Donald Trump's wrestler" Bobby Lashley has apparently quit the promotion, and is working on getting a release from the company. In an EXCLUSIVE report published today on popular pro wrestling news site Wrestling News Desk.Com, it was noted that according to several sources inside WWE, Lashley had a conversation with World Wrestling Entertainment Executive Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis recently and asked for a release.
Laurinaitis took the matter to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who several sources have said is angry with Lashley over the fact Lashley complained loudly about his Wrestlemania payoff. Sources state that McMahon approved giving Lashley a conditional release (conditions not yet known), and that McMahon and Lashley have not discussed the situation yet.
Several sources within World Wrestling Entertainment say the fallout with Lashley started with his discontent over his Wrestlemania payoff, and his issues with several agent/producers, most notably Michael Hayes. Wrestling News Desk editor Matthew Cooper stated, "Inside WWE, the spin is that Lashley's relationship with Krystal (former Smackdown personality Krystal Marshall) is the key to everythng, but we've also gotten reports that Lashley has been very unhappy with WWE for a long time."
On Monday, several fans in the Forums section of a Lashley fansite were debating when Lashley would return, when without warning, Lashley came on the Forum and wrote the following:
I am sorry to everyone here but I am serious when I say I won't be back. Everyone wants to come here and hear the real story and I am telling you the real story. Circumstances which are out of my control left me no decision but to leave the WWE. I can't go into details of this now but like I said before sometimes people will hate you personally and try to destroy you which has happened here. Evil has prevailed however like I said before if you continue your struggle doors will open around these people. You have not scene the last of me so please don't stop your support. Add Bobby Lashley to the list of RECENTLY RELEASED!
Under the condition of anonymity, sources within WWE told Wrestling News Desk's Cooper that Lashley has been sent a release from the company, but it has not been signed and returned to the sports entertainment giant yet. "This is the loss of a superstar they put a lot of money into," Cooper said, "Lashley may not have been the biggest star in WWE, but the investment in him was substantial, and from all reports, Lashley feels like he was driven out of the company."
