Belmont Stakes 2014: Horse Racing Today, Exacta, Trifecta, Predicted Winners Below

The Belmont Stakes is the third leg of horse racing's triple crown and post time for today's race (June 7, 2014) is 6:52 pm EDT, check below for expert picks from handicappers for the winner and even some trifecta and exacta numbers predictions.

The track for today's race is Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. and the distance for the race is 1 1/2 miles, longer than both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

To watch on TV, check out NBCSN (2:30-4:30 p.m. ET) and the coverage switches over to NBC at 4:30 p.m. for the duration fot those studying their horses to make their predictions.

California Chrome is the favorite for the race, a win here in the Belmont Stakes will give the horse the final leg of the Triple Crown.

If he wins, California Chrome will be the first horse to win the Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978, but many expert handicappers believe the mile and a half may be too long for the winner of the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness and have predicted other horses to win today.

First, let's take a look at the post positions and the odds for each horse for today's race and then examine some of the expert picks.

2014 Belmont Stakes Post Positions - Odds:

1 Medal Count 20-1
2 California Chrome 3-5
3 Matterhorn 30-1
4 Commanding Curve 15-1
5 Ride On Curlin 12-1
6 Matuszak 30-1
7 Samraat 20-1
8 Commissioner 20-1
9 Wicked Strong 6-1
10 General A-Rod 20-1
11 Tonalist 8-1

Expert Picks:

Not everyone has California Chrome winning today, many experts have other horses winning it all leaving a big opportunity for an exacta or trifecta win.

Jay Cronley of ESPN.com thinks Ride On Curlin winning it all with a 5-2-9-4 finish.

His prediction:

1. Ride On Curlin
2. California Chrome
3. Wicked Strong
4. Commanding Curve

Mike Wilkening of The Linemakers also has a horse other than California Chrome winning the Belmont Stakes, he thinks General a Rod can deliver a win and has a 10-2-1-9 finish predicted this way:

1. General a Rod
2. California Chrome
3. Medal Count
4. Wicked Strong

Joe Sullivan of Boston Globe doesn't even have California Chrome in the none with a 11-9-1 predicted finish.

1. Tonalist
2. Wicked Strong
3. Medal Count

Kevin Martin has "How I’d Bet $100 On The Belmont Stakes," with a $20 win and place ticket (40 total) on Samratt (the 7 horse who is 20-1) and has an exacta of 2-7, pairing California Chrome with Samratt (another $40).

His other bet is a $1 exacta box with five horses 1-5-7-8-9 and that wager will cost you $20 at the betting window.

Another horse racing expert, Seth Merrow, has California Chrome, Wicked Strong, Commanding Curve and Ride on Curlin as his predicted finish.

More handicapping from experts here.

Merrow notes this on his 3-9-4-5 prediction:

"…We’ll have a $2 exacta box using the four horses listed above. Total cost: $24. Then we’ll key California Chrome over the other three in $8 exactas. Total cost $24."

He adds: "If Chrome wins and one of our other three comes second, the price will be short, but we’ll have multiple tickets. Meanwhile, if there’s an upset, and two of ours complete the exacta, we’ll have a smaller play, but the payout will be much better."

Will a big trifecta come in or will California Chrome win the triple crown?
