George Clooney Joins Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt: Bombs at Box Office
By Christi Hall
Oct 14, 2007
Maybe American movie goers have had it with political activists as actors. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie constantly lecture folks in America about how they believe we should all behave and they haven't had a hit since rumors of an affair boosted their 2005 release "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" to the top of the box office. Now George Clooney has been handed a stinging defeat as he finished third this week with Michael Clayton.
Clooney is quite a bit sharper that Pitt and Jolie and tries his best to keep hi political opinions out of the limelight. He has learned the hard way not to try and force his political opinions out. Pitt - not so much. Just recently he dragged Clooney into a political conversation saying he should run for president.

Clooney said - no thanks. Here's the tale of the tape from Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood Daily. "My box office analysts expected Warner's R-rated Michael Clayton, which expanded into 2,511 theaters this weekend, to be the No. 1 film. Instead, it's only #3 after earning just $3.2 million Friday from 2,511 plays."
She adds, "By Sunday, the pecking order should change to this: #1 Why Did I Get Married with a 3-day estimate of $22.1 mil, #2 The Game Plan (3-day est $11.2 mil), #3 We Own The Night (3-day est $10.9 mil), and #4 Michael Clayton (3-day est $9.8 mil).
