I don’t have much to offer on the subject of one of the most googled celebrities in 2008 – Robert Pattinson, with the exception of sympathy and hope. Sympathy would be the most prevalent thought. Sympathy for him that he can not take a breath without someone snapping a picture or writing about it and sympathy that he is besieged with hordes of screaming people wherever he goes.

Hope that he will survive and maintain his sanity as he matures into adulthood. After all he is only twenty-two years old. Twenty-two is considered an adult but what parent or older adult doesn’t look at most twenty-two year olds as someone not quite an adult, not quite a child but somewhere in between. Ready to protect, mentor and offer safe harbor to at the drop of a hat.


It is a double edged sword for Robert. In order to succeed in the entertainment field he needs the media and fans. But, he also needs to be allowed to mature and develop into an adult, capable of handling whatever comes his way.. How would any of us react to sudden fame and becoming an object of desire, not knowing who or what was real. Initially we might be overjoyed but what would we do after reality set in.

Not allowed to have any private time, go shopping, eat out on a whim or share an intimate moment with anyone. Our life put on display on the internet and media channels. I would venture a guess most of us would not survive intact. We would loose a piece of ourselves along the way.

Robert has a tough road ahead of him with his new found fame. My hope for him is that the fans and media will allow him the time to mature and find a way to balance his life. Hope that he will be capable of discerning what is real and what isn’t. Hope that he will hold on to the best parts of who he is and was.
