Michael Douglas wants to accept his upcoming icon award at the 22nd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival in person on Jan. 13.

"We're thrilled to have the opportunity to honor Michael Douglas at a time when both his creative prowess and his contributions to world cinema have never been more evident – or more deserving of celebration," said Darryl Macdonald, festival director, in a statement.

"Simply put, he's an American treasure."


Douglas is thrilled.

"To be selected with these extraordinary nominees is an honor and boy was I ready for some good news!" Douglas said in a statement.

Last month Oscar-winner Douglas finished seven weeks of chemotherapy and spent Thanksgiving at Disneyworld with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones and their two children.

"It certainly has put a little perspective on mortality, obviously," Douglas told the Hollywood Reporter.
