Hugh Jackman Recognized as Top Fundraiser Collecting $850,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Campaign
Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman has raised more than $850,000 for charity during performances of his Broadway show.
The Australian star is currently appearing in his one-man song and dance production, Back on Broadway, in New York and he has been taking part in fundraising for the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS campaign over the last few weeks.
Jackman has been appealing to his audiences to make donations to the fund and auctioning off T-shirts he has worn on stage, which have made more than $10,000 each.
The actor has successfully raised more than $857,740 with his efforts, and he was recognized as the campaign's leading fundraiser in a ceremony at Manhattan's New Amsterdam Theatre on Tuesday (06 Dec. 2011).
Daniel Radcliffe also attended the Gypsy of the Year event as his former musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying was named one of the charity's top fundraisers after bringing in $325,935.
The campaign has raised more than $4.9 million from 53 participating Broadway shows.
