Detroit Tigers star pitcher Justin Verlander skillfully dodged a question about his possible new girlfriend Kate Upton.

The Detroit Tigers visit the San Francisco Giants tonight for game one of the 2012 World Series and Verlander is the starting pitcher for the Tigers.

Will Upton attend the game?

Will we see shots of Kate on the TV telecast tonight?

The 29-year old Verlander was first linked to the curvy 20-year old bikini model around the All-Star game, but has not commented on Kate as of yet.

His grandfather did comment, though - answering a question from Celebuzz about Kate and Justin.

The 87-year old said: "I heard he has been on dates with a Sports Illustrated girl. I saw a photo — she’s beautiful."

After that interview aired, USA Today's Bob Nightengale asked Justin about Kate.

"I'm not confirming or denying anything," Verlander told the USA Today reporter.

The report notes that Verlander laughed while giving his response, and acknowledged that even his teammates are curious.

"I'll leave that to my grandfather. God bless him," Justin added.

He seemed to find it odd that media members called his grandfather to get a story.

"I never thought I’d have to prepare my grandfather for the media," Verlander added.

"It's a whole different world. I can't believe that people would call my grandparents. It's tough when people start trying to dig into your personal life."
