Katie Holmes nets bizarre dress for New York bash

Katie Holmes wears an unusual black netted dress to the New York Observer's 25th Anniversary party.

The actress arrived at The Four Seasons Restaurant looking pleased with her brave choice of outfit.

Another report this week described both Katie and ex-husband Tom Cruise as "incredibly happy" post divorce.

The former couple's good pal Adam Shankman, who directed the 50-year-old actor in 'Rock of Ages' and worked with Katie, 34, when she appeared as a guest judge on 'So You Think You Can Dance', claims Tom is "happy as a clam" after spending time with their daughter Suri, six, recently.

He told UsMagazine.com: "They are incredibly happy. I've just been emailing with him. He's coming back. He's shooting ['All You Need Is Kill'] in London and seems as happy as a clam. I know he sees his daughter.

"Katie seems really happy. You just fight through all the noise. And it's noisy!"
The ex-couple divorced last July after six years of marriage and Katie was awarded sole custody of Suri, who she lives with in New York.

Tom has rarely been photographed with his daughter since the split but they recently enjoyed some quality time together in London.

A source previously said: "She spent five days with him. He has been working quite long hours on the set, but he was able to have some time off to be with her. They had a really lovely time."
