Katie Price, embattled in her estrangement from Peter Andre, has been in touch with her new companion, cage fighter Alex Reid, for at least a year. Price was spotted with the muscly Reid, who is also known as The Detonator, in recent days – including a wild night spent in the waterfront suite of a Liverpool hotel.

But it has now emerged the glamor gal has known Reid – and been in touch with him – for much longer, including the period she was with husband Andre. A friend told a magazine: "Katie's been in touch with Alex for a while. She got his number from Sol [Gilbert, her martial arts trainer] when she saw a picture of him a year ago.


"She was even sending Alex texts when she was with Peter in LA. But it was only last weekend that they actually got together. He's even been over when the kids have been home." Price also lavished a £4,000 Chanel watch on Reid for his 34th birthday and spent time hanging out on his Surrey film set. She wrapped the watch in a signed picture of herself that read: "I feel a great connection with you."

Reid's girlfriend of 10 years, Marie Thornett, 29, meanwhile claimed she got back from holiday to see pictures of her boyfriend in the newspaper. "Alex never told me about him and Jordan [Price]. I was so embarrassed, as everyone else knew about it. I've hardly stopped crying since," Thornett told a magazine.
