Photos shown in court stunned observers and even alleged assailant Shelley Malil, the man accused of stabbing his girlfriend Kendra Beebe more than 20 times with two different knives in an altercation two years ago.

Malil, 45, is best known for his role as an electronics store employee in the Steve Carell comedy "the 40-year Old Virgin," and he took the stand in his own defense and said he couldn't believe the pictures when he saw them.


"I'm sorry, I had no idea," Malil said. "I saw the pictures for the first time, I was stunned. When I look at those pictures, I still can't believe the knife I was holding was responsible for all those injuries."

Beebe, 38, suffered a punctured lung and other injuries, but survived. The alleged stabbing occurred on Aug. 10, 2008 and the assailant used two separate kitchen knives.

The trial resumes Monday.

He could face 21 years in prison.
