Renee Zellweger's ex-husband Kenny Chesney has opened up about why he ended their marriage after just four months. Talking to Oprah Winfrey, Chesney gave a vague, rambling explanation that it did not fit into the "box" he had created for his life - suggesting he may have been unable to handle the intense media spotlight the marriage created.

But despite how the relationship ended, he still praised his ex, calling Zellweger "a sweet soul".


He insisted it had been "tough", but admitted: "I just wasn't ready. I panicked. I look at my life as a box. ... So everything that I put in - learn how to play guitar, put that in the box; the friends I made, I put that in the box, and my career grew; everything around me, all of the awards and all of the songs I wrote and all the success and everything, I put in that box."

Winfrey - seeming a little confused - then asked if the marriage had been inside or outside the box. Chesney burst into laughter, eventually saying: "It was out of the box."
