Kim Cattrall Nissan Ad Too Racy for New Zealand

Jul 22, 2006

"Sex and the City" vixen Kim Cattrall had a sexy car ad yanked from, New Zealand TV by Japanese automaker Nissan after complaints rolled in that it was just a bit too raunchy.

Catrall plays sexpot Samantha Jones in the HBO series 'Sex and the City' and a version of that character was supposed to be used to sell more Nissans.

It's your basic Samantha as she moans suggestively then drives over a "hump" (with a road sign for those that didn't quite get the suggestion) and then lets out a satisfied sigh.

AP notes that the double entendre-laced ad was approved by New Zealand's Television Commercial Approvals Bureau before broadcast. Nevertheless, it sparked a number of complaints to the Advertising Standards Complaints Board.

She also says in the spot:

"Why didn't you tell me it was so big, I just wasn't prepared for it?" she gushes. "The all-new Nissan Tiida makes you feel really, really, really good inside."

She tells a salesman: "Ah! That was amazing. Absolutely fabulous! I mean the great body and the way you moved it."

Even in New Zealand - it apparently was all a bit much for a 60-second spot.

E! Online reports that before the board could look into the complaints, however, Nissan opted to pull the plug to avoid a PR-headache.

"We made this decision in the interest of self-regulation and in response to public feedback," the company said in a statement.
