Jay says, "for the record I never broke up with Kristin."

Kristin Cavallari is expecting a baby and her fiance Jay Cutler has denied he ditched the reality TV star last year after online critics mocked their baby news.

The couple first announced plans to wed back in April but called off the engagement three months later.

They reconciled at the end of the summer and now they have confirmed they are set to become first-time parents.

However, not all of the pair's online followers have passed on their best wishes, with many sending Cutler angry messages on Twitter.com accusing him of dumping the star, before taking her back.

The American football star has now set the record straight, insisting he never ended his relationship with the former The Hills star.

In a post on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "Thanks for all the tweets. We couldn't be more excited. We don't usually comment on our relationship, but for the record I never broke up with Kristin. It's unfortunate some people are saying hurtful things during such a joyous moment in our life."
