Lauren Bacall & Roger Corman Receive Honorary Oscars in Private

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences presented its honorary Oscars off-camera Saturday night in a departure from its tradition. Actress Lauren Bacall and B-movie actor Roger Corman were recipients, along with cinematographer Gordon Willis of Godfather fame.

They were selected by the academy's Board of Governors. Producer Norman Jewson said: "We're gathered here together, all artists, celebrating excellence without any television cameras – isn't it great?"
Warren Beatty said: "It's so much better ... that nobody's worrying whether 36.5 million people are watching us or 29.2."

The stars were presented with gold statuettes at a black-tie banquet held at the Kodak Theatre's Grand Ballroom.
The audience of 600 invited guests included Hollywood celebrities such as Tom Hanks, Ron Howard, Quentin Tarantino, Jack Nicholson, Annette Bening, Morgan Freeman and Steven Spielberg.
