Manti Te'o speaks to Katie Couric

"Is Manti Te'o Gay?," was a headline that was posted by Outsports.com a week ago as the initial story from Deadspin.Com began to question the legitimacy of Te'o's heartbreaking story of recently deceased girlfriend Lennay Kekua.

A week's worth of revelations and reports still have yet to positively identify Te'o's sexuality, but the latest report makes the claim that the "woman" the Notre Dame star linebacker spent hundreds of hours on the phone with as the love of his life Lennay Kekua was actually a man.

And a friend.

According to the New York Daily News, the lawyer for Ronaiah Tuiasosopo admits that Tuiasosopo pretended to be Lennay, the fake dead girlfriend of Te’o, during hundreds of phone calls with Te’o.

An earlier report had indicated that a girl was actually carrying on the phone call hoaxes.

A lawyer for Ronaiah Tuiasosopo (the fake girlfriend and Te'o's friend who planned the hoax) revealed:

Te’o “thought it was a female he was talking with,” attorney Milton Grimes said.

“It was Ronaiah as Lennay.”

The easy question - after hundreds of hours of phone calls, Te'o would know he was talking to a man, right?

His attorney says it is easy for Ronaiah to sound like a young woman.

He explained that Tuiasosopo has tried out for "The Voice" (and failed) earlier this year and his lawyer says he had vocal and dramatic training.

“Come on, Hollywood does it all the time,” Grimes said.

Te'o's ex-girlfriend (the real one) is speaking out, too - she feels sorry for Manti.

Alexandra del Pilar, 21, talked to People magazine and describes her ex as a "kind, gentle family man with a big heart who genuinely loved Lennay Kekua, who allegedly died of leukemia Sept. 12, though that turned out to be a hoax," according to the item.

Pilar says she believes Manti was not in on the hoax at all.

Manti Te'o just revealed ... he's NOT GAY ... despite rumors he used a fake girlfriend to hide his homosexuality.

Katie Couric asked Manti flat-out whether he's gay because it's the most obvious explanation for the bizarre "Lennay Kekua" hoax -- but Manti replied, "No. Far from it. FAR FROM IT."

Manti also revealed Ronaiah Tuiasosopo's full confession, which Ronaiah sent via Twitter, saying, "I completely accept the consequences to the pain I've caused and it's important that you know the entire truth before anyone else."
