Marie Osmond Doll Dress Disaster: Dancing with the Stars Shocker

Nov 27, 2007

How did Marie Osmond get this far on Dancing with the Stars? Monday night's performance was bizarre and now the buzz that surrounds the show is why she isn't gone. Fainting, food poisoning, the Malibu fires and the sad news of two of the contestants' parents passing away during the competition now have given way to the Marie Doll Dress disaster.

Us Weekly has it accurately pegged: "In what had to be the most bizarre dance of the evening - if not the history of the show - Osmond took the stage dressed as a rosy-cheeked doll who came to life to the Rolling Stones classic, "Start Me Up." The stilted, awkward dance, she said, was a tribute to her career as a doll-maker, as well as to all of her doll-collecting fans (whose votes, perhaps, have helped keep her in the competition this long).

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba called her dance "an odd choice." But judge Bruno Tonioli wasn't as nice. "This is the loopiest thing I have ever seen," Tonioli proclaimed , calling it a cross between "Baby Jane and the bride of Chucky." For that, she received two 7s and an 8. That was very generous, it was quite awful.

Marie (aka the bride of Chucky) is brushing off any negativity. "I think it shows how far I’ve come over the 10 weeks," she said. "There’s no way I could’ve done that 10 weeks ago! "It would’ve been nice to [hear], 'You’re all ... Wow!' But I’m having fun, so who cares?"

The easy answer is of course all of the fans that watch the show. She certainly does not belong in the finals. The third-place contestant will be announced at the start of tonight's show; the remaining pairs will perform two last numbers to determine a winner.
