First Lady Michelle Obama is on a media tour that includes “Good Morning America,” “The View” and “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.

She will also visit with Thursday’s edition of “Rachael Ray.”

It is all an effort to promote her book "American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America."

The book, published by the Crown Publishing Group and featuring a cover photograph of Mrs. Obama, is priced at $30.

Proceeds won't go to the Obama family, she will donate money made from the book to the National Parks Foundation.

While many admire her efforts to help America's out of shape kids, Michelle Obama has been hit with criticism she is trying to make Washington, DC and the US Federal Government mother and father to America's children - once again expanding the American nanny state.

The View's mother hen Barbra Walters asked Michelle about that specific criticism when she appeared on the show.

Walters’ summed up the complaints:

“Don’t give us advice on what to eat, especially in schools. Don’t tell us how much to exercise. It’s not your affair to get into our personal lives.”

Obama responded:

“We’re not going to solve this problem with government telling people what to do,” she said.

“But what people do need, parents in particular, they need information. They need a community that’s helping them make the decisions that are right for them. And that means they need good labels on products. They need schools to offer nutritious, healthy meals so it doesn’t undermine what they’re trying to do at home. We’ve got to figure out ways to help get our kids get more active.”
