When Mike Tyson was pulled over in the wee morning hours last week in Scottsdale, Arizona it was of little surprise that a police report claimed he was whisking off a white powder off of the console of the vehicle as the officer approached. He was eventually arrested after sobriety checks.

Mike Tyson Cocaine Arrest and Addiction No Surprise

"He admitted to using cocaine today and stated he is an addict and has a problem," the accompanying police report said. "Mike admitted to possessing bags of cocaine and said he uses it anytime he can get his hands on it."

The one-time baddest man on the planet is now just plain bad.

He was graceful in his arrest though. No tirades, no violence, just an admission that he is indeed an addict. He was also polite in his courtroom appearance. That's the Jekyll and Hyde Mike.

Bernard Fernandez has called it a self-fulfilling prophecy and speculates that "perhaps only death, likely at an early age and quite possibly by violent means, will truly unshackle the former two-time heavyweight champion from the hell on earth he has always seemed so intent on creating for himself,' in a column for philly.com

That sounds harsh but is likely right in line with the truth. "I know I'm going to blow one day," Tyson said in October 1998. "My life is doomed the way it is. I have no future."

For those that watched him grow from a raw fighter to a true champion and then sink into his 'celebrity' persona and eventually turn into a running joke that is sad. But the arrest and his claims of addiction is of little surprise.
