Now one politician in Los Angeles believes it would be the perfect site for a new park and tourist attraction.

Democrat Mike Davis, chairman of an arts and tourism committee in the California State Assembly, said: "It will absolutely be a destination for many who admire the performing arts and music."
The assemblyman will be pushing for the idea when the state legislature comes back in session in August – and he is very keen for it to happen.

He said Jackson "was one of the world's pre-eminent entertainers and California is fortunate to have such a site in its jurisdiction".
Would Neverland Ranch be a money pit for the state of California? Davis acknowledged buying and maintaining the land might cost more than the state can afford. But he told the Los Angeles Times the project could go ahead if corporations and non-profits chip in.
