Neil Patrick Harris Versus Britney Spears: Sitcom Wars
By Christi Hall
Apr 14, 2008
So Neil Patrick Harris didn't like Britney Spears playing a role on the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" even though she delivered the highest ratings in the shows history. That's how the initial report read, meaning basically that Doogie Howser was tossing poor little Britney Spears under a bus. And for nothing more than a sitcom. So is it true? Maybe, or maybe not. At first the Associated press stood by there story and the quotes they had published on the wire service.

Harris was quoted by the Associated Press as saying, "I'm in the minority that our show does not need stunt casting in order to succeed.... I worry that if they start Will & Grace-ing us too much, that the show will suffer."

Oh the humanity! That brought comments against Harris like, hey, it is a sitcom, lighten up Doogie! Apparently he decided that looking like a villain didn't really suit him all the well so he has tried this statement to straighten the whole mess up. He made his remarks to Entertainment Weekly and claimed that the AP had it all wrong.
"It seems that yesterday a writer took some quotes of mine and speculated an opinion about their intent. I write to you to set the record straight," the actor says. "Britney did a great job on the show. She really did. In fact, we are all hoping that she returns rather soon to reprise her role as Abby." Who to believe? AP sort of says they are sorry.

"We're issuing a clarification to our story," said AP entertainment editor Jesse Washington said in a statement. "Harris did not say that he opposed a return engagement for Spears, and our lede said that he did."
