Paul Simon No Threat According to Edie Brickell - Court Date for Husband and Wife
Paul Simon is no threat to wife Edie Brickell, she told a court today after both were recently arrested under suspicion for domestic violence.
Paul and Edie were both charged with disorderly conduct after police were called to their home recently and appeared in court on the charges.
He's 72 years old and she's 48 and the couple, who have been married since 1992, were arrested on Saturday after officers paid a visit to their home in New Canaan, Connecticut, to investigate a domestic ''dispute'', according to a police statement.
The police arrived at the scene at 8 pm local time after they received a phone call from someone at the home address, who then hung up without speaking.
Upon arrival, officers believed it was a case of domestic violence, but found very minor injuries.
Police chief Leon Krolikowski is quoted by Sky News as saying: ''There was aggressiveness on both sides.''
Speaking outside the courthouse, the couple's lawyer Allan Cramer claimed the encounter that led to the arrests was ''much less than nothing'' and the pair have never had a disagreement like this before in the past.
Paul, 72, who has won 12 Grammy awards, first found fame as one half of the folk duo Simon and Garfunkel, while Edie, 48, was the lead singer of the band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians.
The couple appeared in Norwalk Superior Court in Conn. today and requested no orders of protection.
"He's no threat to me at all," Brickell told the judge, requesting that the case be dismissed.
Simon added, "We're going to go home. ... We're going to watch our son play baseball."
Both Simon and Brickell were charged with one count each of disorderly conduct.
