American fashion photographer Irving Penn has died at the age of 92. Penn's work can be found in galleries around the United States, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The New York Times wrote: "He was probably most famous for photographing Parisian fashion models and the world's great cultural figures, but he seemed equally at home photographing Peruvian peasants or bunion pads."


Penn, who had a long association with Vogue, once said: "Many photographers feel their client is the subject. My client is a woman in Kansas who reads Vogue. I'm trying to intrigue, stimulate, feed her ... The severe portrait that is not the greatest joy in the world to the subject may be enormously interesting to the reader."

Penn took portraits of movie stars and famous artists, including Miles Davis, Spencer Tracy, Georgia O'Keeffe and Pablo Picasso.
